This year the Doctrine and Covenants is the subject of study in Sunday School in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the church that is generally called the Mormon church. It is centralized in Utah, however I am a California Mormon. I suppose most people have no idea why I would draw the distinction.
The Doctrine and Covenants is one of four books that we regard as canonical scripture. Within it's pages are revelations that were given to the Prophet of the Restoration.
The thing I'm interested in is reading some of the other records that were made by early Mormons about the early history of hte church.
LUCY MACK SMITH
The Prophet of the restoration, who I have mentioned, was a farmer, Joseph Smith. His mother Lucy Mack was a firm supporter (not the reaction of most mothers whose sons come home talking about marvelous visions...usually medication follows) and wrote her own history of the early "Mormon" church.
Here is a link to an online source of that book where I will be reading it.

OLIVER COWDERY
Oliver Cowdery was one of the few people who ever saw the "golden plates" from which Joseph translated "The Book of Mormon." Among his other roles in the church was that of editor over church newspapers.
I have not yet found any printed or online source of these, but here's a link to Wikipedia that tells a little about him.

I'll do more research on that later.
That's all for now.
Have a great Sunday, and a good week.
